Autumn in Japan with Art

2020/09/15
Shinzo Okuoka

After August, the heat that has been tormenting us finally eases up, and we finally enter the season of autumn.

It has long been known that autumn is the season for sports, reading, appetite, and so on. But for art fans, autumn is all about art, isn't it? Incidentally, the term "autumn of art" itself does not exist in other countries, and is said to be unique to Japan.

The first reason for this is that Japan's major exhibitions such as the Nika Exhibition, the Nitten Exhibition, and the In-Ten Exhibition are held in autumn. It is also said that the pleasant autumn weather gives people more time to enjoy art.

Autumn is the season of the moon and beautiful autumn leaves. How elegant it is to take the trouble to appreciate the moon and autumn leaves in such a season. In this article, I would like to introduce a few works of art depicting the moon and autumn leaves in autumn, as if they were the original scenery of the Japanese people.
