[Statement] From those selected for the 100 Artists 10 2023/24, a gateway to success for young artists held in February of this year, we are pleased to present an exhibition focusing on five artists who are pushing the envelope of new expression in the Japanese art scene.
This exhibition focuses on five artists who are pushing the envelope of new expression in the Japanese art scene.
Mantisuko Mantis takes on the challenge of “reconstructing the painting of beautiful women” using women as her motif,
Nakamitsuki, who confronts “music” and depicts communication before it becomes words,
Tylakulka uses dogs as motifs for his works that deepen his contemplation of human freedom and relationships,
Hidehiko Iijima depicts the reality of the mixture of disgust and cuteness through stuffed animals,
Kai Inoue attempts to fuse ceramics and street art,
Don't miss out on the “UPDRAFT” that these contemporary artists are creating!

Naka explores the relationship between the physicality in painting and contemporary visual expression, and creates his paintings by using a digital terminal device, the iPhone, and applications to draw preliminary sketches, which are then applied to canvas with acrylic paints and mediums. Viewing music as the root of communication, each painting is based on a vast amount of historical music data and records from the contemporary music scene and distribution subscription services. This work uses the electric guitar as a motif to depict a session that changes in response to various instruments. The motif depicted at various eye levels expresses the importance of multiple perspectives and dialogues.
