In this work, the light from the projector is seen as a "membrane" and expresses the duality of "inside and outside". The light projected on the face functions as an outer surface and membrane, and the self that exists inside is positioned as the inner surface. In this process, the "membrane" exists as a surface skin that accepts light, and the interiority is latent in its deeper layers. As the first step in the production process, an illustration of the character was created. The color of the character's hair and eyes were carefully selected in consideration of the visual effect of the projection. The character is constructed as an entity that reflects the artist's inner nature but is different from his real self. By projecting this illustration onto the face, the artist visually embodies the divergence between inside and outside. Special emphasis was placed on the distribution of light on the characters in the face and hands during the photo shoot. In contemporary society, people form various "membranes" as a means of self-protection, and this trend is becoming even more pronounced as social networking and virtual reality become more commonplace. A sense of distance arises between the authentic self and the socially constructed self. The production process in this work is an attempt to visually sublimate this problematic awareness. In addition, in today's digital society, there is a constant demand for a multi-layered staging of the self. In this context, the question of how to construct and integrate the relationship between the "staged self" and the "essential self" emerges. This work presents this fundamental question to the viewer. This work extends the conventional concept of self-portrait to explore the multiple layers of the self in contemporary society and the function of the "membrane" that surrounds it. At the same time, it is an attempt to question the multilayered nature of human existence and identity in the digital age.
