This is a platter from the "Bishojo Tougei" series. The size is 9". The base clay is a mixture of several kinds of clay, including Okinawan red clay, based on black mud, which is then molded on a potter's wheel. The surface is decorated with a white glaze, and the surface is half-dried and then scraped off using a technique called "line carving". The glazes are made mainly of three colors traditionally used for Okinawan pottery: iron oxide (brown), copper (green), and cobalt (blue), and they are oxidized and fired in an electric kiln. Ceramic is an extremely long-lived material that does not change or deteriorate over thousands of years once fired, but at the same time, it is a fragile material. The "Bishojo Ceramics" series is created with both the desire to eternalize the fleeting glimmer of a young girl and the desire to handle it with delicacy.
