Tree of Life 1 from the Garden series, 2023

The triptych consists of three wall sculptures made of plaster and arranged on a construction grid. Each sculpture can be exhibited separately.

This series is inspired by the symbol of the World Tree, which holds deep significance in various cultures and religions. The immense tree, embodying life force and connecting different realms, serves as the foundation of creative expression. The Tree of Life has profound roots in Ukrainian culture, symbolizing life, fertility, rebirth, unity, and the continuum of generations.

In my work, I utilize impressions of bullets , gifted by a military friend currently serving in hotspots, and impressions of an antique embroidered blouse, acquired at a flea market. These elements blend together to form the Tree of Life. It is placed on a construction grid, representing both a physical and symbolic framework.

This series is a project of observation and archiving. I capture the moment when Ukrainians create their own Tree of Life.

Concept

“I am Alona Shybunova.
Since childhood, I have been writing my diary, many diaries.
So, I dive deeper into myself, living more generously my life events. I feel the need to turn into a matter of what is repeated in my life and what worries me the most. This is how my projects are created/born. My inner space weaves outward, and I broadcast inner contemplation.

The intuitive, sensual approach is the primary method in my work. My medium is installation and performance. I am interested in using space as matter, changing it, and transforming it with the help of objects. So procedural is essential to me.

Most often, I use white and black colors in my work. White is like a white sheet, a symbol of the beginning, purification, and birth of the new. Black - completion, death, transformation. And it’s infinite - one turns into another, complements, shades strengthen. This is how darkness and light interact with each other.”

If there is a string on the back of the canvas or the back of the frame, you can hang it with a pin type that has a short hooking surface.
