This stool is made of a huge tree, nearly 100 years old, which was hollowed out by hand. It can be used in a variety of ways, such as a stand for displaying houseplants or flower vases, or as a small table for children. When I visited Botswana, I saw traditional African furniture made from a single piece of wood without joints. I was impressed by this approach to woodworking, which is different from the traditional Japanese technique of jointing wood to form a shape, and based on this idea, I wanted to create a piece that utilizes the shape of a huge tree as it is, and this stool was born. The stool is named "khudu" stool, which means "land tortoise" in Botswana, because it looks like a tortoise.
