  • About this artist

    Concept

As a printmaker and fine artist, I have been working in deep consideration of "painting" and "printmaking" in order to express my own view of life and the cosmos. Through copperplate prints, monotypes, drawings, and wood panel compositions that make full use of these techniques, I express the existence of human beings today as part of nature in the larger sense of the word. In recent years, he has been pursuing new possibilities in the space of two-dimensional expression by using contemporary printmaking techniques such as takuhanga and materials such as Japanese paper. Many of his panel works are assembled to evoke the human body or a kimono, and the large-sized panels (about 6 panels, each measuring approximately 30" x 80cm) are displayed side by side on the wall. -On the occasion of the publication of the book, we are pleased to announce the publication of "Textures, a collection of works by Masato Nagai" from Amazon.jp. In copperplate engraving and painting, the word "matiere" has long been more familiar than the word "texture. However, in the title of my work, I use the word "matiere" to mean that my encounter with the "texture" of printmaking was the starting point for all of my work. I hope you will enjoy "Textures," the touch of life of an artist who has lived through the contemporary era to the fullest.
