Concept

Mishima, who loved picture books as a child, considers photographs to be like illustrations in a picture book, and creates works mainly of young girl models. For Mishima, her works are picture books of the real world, and she says that she creates them for the "beautiful girls" that exist in the hearts of herself and all women. The artist first draws sketches of the finished picture, then actually creates props and sets based on the sketches, and then photographs them. The combination of unrealistic motifs gives the impression of computer graphics or composite photography, but all of the images are of real people or objects captured through the lens. Mishima's method of blending "reality" and "imagination" is a major characteristic of his work. He is obsessed with the idea of creating "beautiful pictures" of even the most absurd of real-life events, and he brings a "beautiful girl" from his imagination to life in his works. When you look closely at the objects in the girl's hand and the objects set in the background, you can see that while satirically depicting the real world, including the way people are treated and human emotions in modern society, the girl is conveying a message necessary for life.
