The "Hawaii" series, including this work, is a group of works created over a three-year period and completed in 2007. Moriyama captures the landscape and daily life of Hawaii from a different perspective than the usual tourist image of Hawaii, highlighting the loneliness and contrasts that lurk there. He has visited Hawaii many times and constructed a unique photographic world by approaching its unique atmosphere and people's lives. This series has been exhibited at the Tokyo Museum of Photography and other museums, and is also included in a book of his photographs published by Nazrali Press. The book contains approximately 300 photographs, which are characterized by Moriyama's typical high-contrast black-and-white photography, and stand out for their visual expression that blurs the boundary between reality and illusion.
