Story:
Forty years ago, I visited Zapallar for the first time, was impressed with the vegetation of the surroundings and the solitary tree at the center of “Cerro de la Cruz”. A white wooden cross that is surrounded by 3 cypress what from a far look like one, possibly all placed at the same time, but could not find the date of when this happened.
For New Year’s 2024 had the chance to record these cypresses again, which stand impressive amongst the 140+ flora that this small island has. The site was recently declared a Nature Sanctuary.
Using PhotoPills, was able to find the exact position I should be to take an image of the sun resting behind the tree. The sun light passing through the branches refracted and made this curious design.
