    Description

I found a box of old photographic paper and decided to try my hand at photograms. This involves placing objects on undeveloped photo paper and letting the sun develop the image. Where I put the objects remained white and by adding water, vinegar and other liquids I was able to create texture. Because I had no fixer, the image had to be captured and recorded by scanning it as quickly as possible. The next morning I came back to my studio to find a pile of photographic paper fully exposed and a dull sludge colour. These photographs are all part of a series of Transient Images made in this way. They will be printed on size A2 Awagami Washi Bamboo paper and signed, numbered and embossed.

  • About this artist

    Sarah Morton

    Sarah Morton

    United Kingdom

    Concept

Memory and time, perception and reality, these are the themes running through the imagery of photographer Sarah Morton. Based in western Scotland on the Kintyre peninsula, Sarah's work is deeply influenced by the extraordinary changing northern hemisphere light and atmospherics. The proximity of water and mountains all along the west coast of Scotland is her backdrop and much of her work resonates with the power and drama of the seas and winds. As a direct contrast Sarah has an ongoing fascination with floral and botanical art. Both her grandmother and mother grew roses and Sarah's photographs of the flowers in her garden are some of her most sought after. Working with Japanese washi papers has been a revelation for Sarah's botanical art and the delicacy of the image is beautifully complemented by the fine grain of the hand made papers from Japan. She prints all her own work and frames and mounts prints if requested. All her images are printed to order on a selection of fine art papers from Hahnemuhle, Canson and Awagami.
