You may have seen several posts about being productive, learning new things, and channeling your panic and fear into creativity during this difficult period.
I’ve also seen some tweets about how famous artists innovated during quarantines, like when Shakespeare wrote “King Lear” while theaters were shuttered for plague and when Isaac Newton created calculus while social distancing.
And although these are intended to reassure and motivate us, they carry an inherent judgment.
Not everyone can turn a pandemic or trauma into something creative. And it’s fine. Don’t feel left out, because pandemic emergencies are not a good creative restraint for everyone.
Whenever you find yourself in such state, just retreat to whatever is familiar to you for comfort: playing video games, old books, old TV shows, sleeping.
This whole situation is ugly and awkward but together we would morph into into beautiful graceful butterflies who survived a temporary metamorphosis.
