    Description

In 2007 I met the Cirque Bidon, a travelling circus with horse-drawn caravans and an open-air big top, returning from Italy. The following year in 2008, I went back to see them to photograph their daily life. Here the laundry is drying on the edge of the track which will come to life that evening.
Picture taken with a Nikon FE2 and a black and white TriX film. I shot my photo in the darkroom on baryta paper then I turned it into sepia and then I colored it with inks and brushes. The frame was for me an obvious choice for this photograph. The whole thing makes it a unique work.

  • About this artist

    Concept

My approach begins with the encounter with the moment, the atmospher, the person or persons who are the ingredients of an inspired staging. When my index finger presses the shutter release, when the "clic" is heard, it is a whole world, the whole future of this scene, this fraction of a second that i visualise, the coloring itself is already envisaged.
Working in silver is the choice of suspense, of patience... as long as the film is not developed there is a part of mystery...
In the heart of the darkroom, i make yhe photo my own, a certain intimimacy is created. In the half-light illuminated by the red light, the image slowly appears in black and white in the developer tray. The colors that i will apply later on are setting up in my mind.
After tipping the photographs into timeless sepia, the pictures take a certain softness from which emanates a particular tenderness.
Then comes the touches of watercolor ink applied like a delicat makeup.
The colorization is the extension of my emotions, the choice of colors is the result of the experience of all stages. The link between the frame and the image is emotion, patience and unity.
