Stripes 2, captured in the Dominican Republic in 2014, represents an exemplary piece of photography. This artwork is a constituent of the Mirror series, wherein the artist ingeniously exploits the phenomenon of total water reflection to construct captivating and surrealistic scenes that paradoxically embody reality.

Concept

A PhD in microelectronics, Cerutti first entered into the world of photography in 2006; he sees it as a medium to capture light and is interested on its effect on the human body and space in water, through reflection and undulation. Using digital and conventional film cameras, he captures the interactions of water and light and how they act on bodies that are submerged in and reflected by water. Without any editing or post-production work, or scripting the shoot, his photos capture the fleeting moment, and the results oscillate between abstraction and figuration; subtle spaces to destabilize the viewer’s perception. The spectator is transported by photos, which commence in reality and then fade into a dialogue between evidence and wondering.
