In December 2020 I visited a small town in Essex, southern of England, for one of my many walks to discover new places to photograph. Hidden behind a bush, I noticed a small group of goats locked up in a paddock. It was fascinating to watch the behavior of these goats. They were so inspiring that I could not resist to photograph.
The Goat is an animal with a strong symbolic power since the earliest times and almost present in all cultures and civilizations before us. The Goat takes on a positive or negative meaning depending on the culture and historical period.
In the collection Goat & Horns: return to mysticism, I wanted to represent the animals in all their beauty and through the strong shadows, free them from the enclosure in which they were locked up. Restoring dignity and spirituality, the gaze of the goats in some shots is hypnotic and at times full of mysterious energy. I want to make the image of the goat sophisticated and unique. In other shots, I wanted to represent the weapon of the animal, the horns, that through a mystical light, brings us back to the most spiritual part of the animal, restoring that lost strength, salvation and immortality that the figure of the goat contained.
