The lotus flower is the national symbol of Vietnam and some other Asian countries that practice Buddhism. This flower symbolizes beauty in the dark, purity and strength of the heart. Although it grows in a dirty environment and the water in which it is rooted is muddy, the lotus rises above all to bloom in beauty towards the sun. This symbol of overcoming the material world represents the triumph of light over darkness.
The original photograph was taken in Hanoi, Vietnam. The artwork was created based on photography and digital techniques using painting textures, inspired by the traditional Vietnamese techniques of lacquer painting.
This photograph has been exhibited at Ducal Palace of Medinaceli (Spain) and in Milan and Naples (Italy).
