    Materials: magazine clippings, reproduction of a painting by Georg Friedrich Kersting “Mann am Sekretar”, 1811

    collage as a medium allows me to capture a state/emotion/thought as quickly as possible, as the images I work with push and spin the reel of associations in my head

    part of "1836" Series
    The series is based on an album of reproductions of German sentimental artists of the first half of the XIX century. Looking at the reproductions, there is a feeling that even at the time of creation, they had very little to do with reality. I combined these reproductions with modern digital photos, watching reality compete with unreality in more ways than one.
    Each collage is a separate story, a puzzle that seeks to be solved.
    At the same time, I dedicate each of them to one of my admired artists. Therefore, the work may have one or two titles.

    Concept

    Adaptability, the ability to be critical of one's own and others' positions as well as empathy are the
    most attractive human traits to me. Also useful for the survival of our specie I must say.
    That is why in my artistic practice I explore the ambiguity of what we see, hear, and think. The
    the adult brain usually uses the minimum necessary set of information to filter things, events, and
    people into familiar categories and determine attitudes toward them.
    With my works, I try to gently "break" the viewer's brain, to cause a shift in perception, building
    new associations so that new neural connections begin to form in the brain.
    I try to be minimalistic in my practice. Minimal environmental impact. Minimal means of
    expressing an idea.
    In my installation projects, I`m trying to draw the spectators into by-hand interaction with the works.
