This mixed media artwork is inspired by Medieval and Renaissance European Art. The society of that time laid great emphasis on religion and required religious images, and artists had to work within the structure of tradition.
Another source of inspiration was the work of Marc Chagall, the merry uproar and roguish humor which characterize Chagall's sense of humanity.
On the basis of these two opposing artistic approaches and methods, the work "The Three Marys" arose.
Employing this unusual combination, moving from one artistic world to another, from one era to another I tried to use the opportunity to reinterpret the ideas of great old masters through an enhanced narrative.
The idea was not to compare myself to such influential figures. Instead I set out to construct an artwork that serves as a channel for both personal and universal narratives as seen through the lens of feminine archetypes and symbols.
The basis of the collage is a paper ephemera pasted on plexiglass, which is fixed on cardboard.
The picture is made together with a decorative frame.
Cuts of newspapers, magazines, advertising brochures are hand-painted with acrylic. The halos are covered with gold leaf.
