  • About this Cognac Sunset

    Description

Cognac Sunset, part of the Bridges series by multidisciplinary artist Iris Jacobs, invites viewers to reflect on the dynamic interplay of nature and memory. This evocative collage merges warm, golden hues with bold architectural motifs, creating a visual narrative that balances strength and fragility.

The work features the ethereal glow of a sunset—symbolic of transitions and endings—juxtaposed against intricate bridge structures that suggest connection and resilience. By layering elements of photography, hand-cut textures, and abstract forms, Jacobs crafts a sense of movement and depth, echoing the fluidity of time and relationships.

    Inspiration Behind the Piece
Cognac Sunset embodies Jacobs’ philosophy of bridging worlds—be it between past and present, the natural and the human-made, or personal and universal stories. The warm, cognac-toned palette enhances its reflective tone, urging viewers to pause and reconnect with fleeting moments of beauty and introspection.

    About the Bridges Series
This series delves into themes of unity, transition, and the invisible threads that connect people and places. Each piece is a celebration of metaphorical and literal bridges, serving as a reminder of the power of connection in an increasingly fragmented world.

  • About this artist

    Concept

My work is an exploration of the spaces between the personal and the universal—those fleeting moments where our inner worlds meet the outer world. Collage is my chosen medium because it allows me to deconstruct and reconstruct reality, combining old and new materials to create something entirely unique. Each piece is a balance of form, color, and texture, creating spaces that invite both comfort and exploration. Through these collages, I explore not only the layering of images but also the deeper layers of meaning that emerge when we mix the past with the present.

The process of working with collage is an act of sustainability—giving new life to discarded images and objects. By transforming them into something entirely new, I explore the tension between preservation and reinvention, questioning what is worth saving and what can be reimagined. Play is essential to my practice; it fuels my curiosity and my ability to experiment with form and structure, breaking free from the constraints of conventional thinking.

In my work, I delve into our collective longing—for memories of something we may never have had or a nostalgic return to something we might rediscover in these fragmented pieces. The resulting spaces are both familiar and strange, offering a place where comfort and exploration coexist. They are an invitation to engage with the past while moving forward into new realms of possibility.

Ultimately, my collages reflect the delicate balance between the old and the new, the seen and the unseen, the real and the imagined. They are spaces where we can reconnect with forgotten memories, challenge our perceptions, and engage in the ongoing act of creating something meaningful from what we have—and what we might still discover.
