'Purple Rain' is about color combination that symbolizes spiritual growth, love and success that are connected with one another and inlined with the main purpose. And of course love and great respect for Mr.Rogers Nelson.
Made out of more than 100 hand-cut petal elements from Vogue.
Each one is gently and accurately applied with the transparent glue to the white surface of 200 gsm High-quality drawing paper. The inverse silhouette of the cutout along with layering technique is used to create contrast, add details, and depth. Besides, it's a great way to appreciate the beauty of an empty space that is most of the time hidden from the eye of the viewer.
Each floral pattern is unique and came to life as a result of improvisation.

Concept

Maria Vetkalova is a Contemporary Collage Artist, most known for creating unique artworks using specifically VOGUE magazine as a medium. Her particular visual language of evocative works inspired by nature, has organic shapes and looks like a floral pattern.

'I love to create patterns that tell stories through hand-cut elements of VOGUE. Their details, textures, smooth lines are like music for me - a universal language that is able to connect with like-minded souls all over the world without saying a word.'

Why VOGUE?
I always imagine VOGUE as a fragile butterfly, born into this world to amuse and inspire with its delicate beauty for a short period of time...
And then gently fade away and disappear...

In a digital era paper magazines might be gone in 20 years from now.
It is my own way to express love for fashion, capture the history of a certain era and share contemporary culture in a form of artwork with viewers all over the world. The medium itself becomes an inspiration. It opens endless possibilities of creating series of works related to the theme of art, music, fashion, on which I'm working at the moment.
