Words heard from the work
"Know me and swear by me. I only believe that my wish will come true."
The motif of this work is a mirror, one of the three sacred objects.
When you visit a shrine, you put your hands together in front of the shrine and face yourself in the mirror.
The Japanese word for mirror, written in hiragana, is "kagami. Or, to look at it another way, kagami. The character for "kami" has a "me" in it.
I believe that when we pray at a shrine, we are swearing to ourselves that we will make this wish come true.
The rabbit fish in the mirror has made a strong wish in its hand, and now with its fins, the rabbit's feet, the symbol of good luck, it is vowing to go on the path to make the wish come true.
The animal holding the mirror reminds me of a silkworm. The rabbit spinning the thread of good fortune as it moves toward its wish.
