"Icelandic Spars" 2021
Gouache, acrylic, watercolor, glue & foil on 11"x14" paper. Title and signature on back.
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum...philosophy of embracing the flaws and imperfections by highlighting them. A metaphor for human existence and healing; damage, cracks, trauma, and breakage are aspects of human life.
My technique is based on Japanese Kitsugi effects and philosophies so I create paintings based on emotions or situations, rip them up, and then put them back together with a Kintsugi effect and mindfulness.
