From Wikipedia, "In Chinese Taoism, there were two distinct entities: the soul and the spirit. The soul is the qi that supports the spirit, and the spirit is the qi that supports the body. Together they are called konpaku (soul and spirit). The soul and spirit were linked to the philosophy of Yi, which believed that the soul belongs to the yang and returns to the heaven (tama) and the spirit belongs to the yin and returns to the earth. We live by circulating our soul and spirit like breathing. When we are healthy, when we are sick, we must not let either yin or yang be absent. Life and death are a cycle.
