Michelangelo, whose sculpture forms the basis of the picture, portrayed death torture, oblivion in the image of a slave. The statue was sometimes called the "Sleeping Slave". Looking at him, you might think that the creature is falling into a dream, and maybe even eternal.
In the created image, the tragedy of death and victorious freedom are merged. The slave is crushed in battle with the modern world: immobilized, dead, fettered, defeated and must submit.
And, perhaps, he is finally free. The dream of death gives a long-awaited deliverance, from now on a person is not a prisoner, he is the Master of his desires, in full readiness to be a tempter and tempted.
The "dying slave" falls into pacification and blissful peace. The meaningful image reflects the theme of crushed resistance, oblivion and modern customs.
