These elephant seals are from the RESPECT series, which I drew in honor of the sea creatures. For the representation of the countless hairs of their fur I chose a fine, light-fast ballpoint pen mien. Many different shades of grey are formed, which give the fur a shiny, moist impression through light reflections with white watercolour. The little elephant seal finds security with his father on the dark pebbles on the beach. I have depicted the lightness of the water by quickly coloring blue watercolor, which enhances the contrast with the heaviness of the stones and animals. The intricate depiction of the animals is meant to express my deep respect for the ocean creatures. Giving endangered animals a home on my paper makes me happy. Mentally, I thus travel to remote shores, visiting the animals in my mind without disturbing them. I am happy to take the viewer with me on the journey.
