Daughters of Ares, the god of war. Their occupation was hunting and war, their arms the bow, spear, and axe. They were thought to dwell at the edge of what the Greeks considered their ‘civilized’ world and were most often associated with the area around the southern coast of the Black Sea. Theme of Amazons appears in works of art stating from ancient Greece, through the Renaissance and up to our days. This is Inga's interpretation of an Amazon warrior woman. The portrait is executed in modern expressive style with very moderate inclusion of decorative elements, making reference to tendencies of late 19th century.
