Description

spontaneity 11-27-23 is a smaller-scale female figure study on canvas in oils using a muted palette contrasting with areas of vibrant color. The work is painted with a fluid application of paint, staining and stripping back to allow areas of raw canvas to be visible.

Utilizing bold, expressive brushstrokes, the artist builds layers of texture and emotion, conveying the beauty of the natural world. The portrait/figure has been a traditional subject within the history of painting. This familiarity with the subject and the ideal of beauty allows me to develop the process of painting through abstraction and mark-making and at the end of the process still have something that remains familiar although imperfect and slightly awkward.
