Landscape of Auvergne, France. View from my studio.
This painting pays homage to the fleeting beauty of a summer evening in the Velay mountains – an invitation to feel the serene calm that precedes the night.
The clouds, ample and majestic, invade the sky, painted with a generous impasto that gives body to the canvas. Their swirls, a delicate pink blending with blues and grays, capture and reflect the last rays of the sun, creating an infinite depth in the azure sky. The sun sets behind the rolling hills. The mountains unfold in shades of green and brown, iridescent hues that seem to absorb the last glimmers of the day.
I have tried to capture in this painting the subtle, almost melancholic contrast between the elongated shadows of the mountains and the golden glints of the last lights, enveloping the scene in a tangible tranquility.
The white finish on the sides of the canvas allows for hanging without a frame if you wish.
