    Description

    Landscape of Auvergne, France.

In this work I tried to capture the wild and preserved essence of the Mézenc massif. I sought to transcribe the majesty of the landscape through vigorous touches and sharp contrasts which restore the rich and varied texture of this powerful nature.

The foreground offers a reassuring proximity to its rocky outcrops and vegetation. Then extends a succession of valleys and mountains which follow one another harmoniously, offering a sensation of depth and immensity. Shades of blue and green instill a freshness into the canvas, evoking the high altitude and clean air of these heights. Above, the sky unfolds in a magnificence of voluminous and dynamic clouds whose movement I sought to restore. The shadows they cast on the landscape below weave a complex and changing dialogue between sky and earth.

This painting is painted with professional grade oil colors on a primed canvas. I prepare myself my canvases to create a texture specific to my painting needs and to insure them maximum longevity.

The white finish of the sides of the canvas allows, if you wish, a hanging without a frame.

  • About this artist

    Concept

I am a French landscape painter. My work, based on observation in nature “en plein air”, is in line with the French landscape painters of the 19th century. I like the poetry of simple subjects like the paths around my village, the edge of a river, a cloud above the mountains…
I paint with oil, "alla prima" (wet on wet), this enables me to capture the atmosphere, the momentary and transient effects of sunlight. This forces me to paint quickly with lively and spontaneous brushstrokes that lend my paintings a sense of movement.
I live and paint in Auvergne, central France. My studio, overlooking the Loire gorges, provides a view of the grand, volcanically-shaped landscape. I explore this scenery with my brushes, finding new inspiration in the changing light, weather, and seasons.
I also enjoy traveling to discover new landscapes, colors, and lights, with the sea being a particularly endless source of inspiration. My work aims to humbly honor the world's beauty, finding the sublime in even the most familiar environments. Beyond mere representation, I strive to express my awe of nature's ever-changing spectacle.
