The sea has always been very important in my life. I don't think I can live in a place where there is no sea. I was born and lived in Istanbul for many years. I studied at university there. My favorite part of Istanbul is the ferries that carry passengers between the Anatolian side and the European side. Especially the night journey is poetic. If you sit on the side of the ferry, it is cool and dark. It is very close to the water. Water droplets hit your face.
In Istanbul, the sea is dominated by dark blue and green, and sometimes it is very dark, close to black.
When you go south from here to the Aegean coast, you encounter a bright sun and a deep blue sea. You see families feeding themselves from the sea, fishermen and women waiting for their return on the beach. I have great respect for the sea and its people and they are an endless source of inspiration to me.
I started with acrylic on the base of the work. I continued with oil paint. The paints and oils I used were selected from quality materials to ensure a long life of the work.
