Characteristics of the artist's style are, firstly, urban landscapes with elements of cubism and suprematism, which allow not only to "distort the two-dimensional space" of the image but also to saturate it with multidimensional meanings and allusions; secondly, cubist still lifes, rooted in the work of artists of the Russian avant-garde and French Cubism. The mega theme of Evgeny Ivanov's work is the theme of "past or lost time", which the artist implements through the theme of "pale of settlement"; the theme of jazz musicians of the '30-'50s, card players, "men in bowler hats"; the Gulag and anti-Bolshevik theme. The coloristic artist works on the contract of shades of ochre, umber, sienna, brown Van Dyk, and ultramarine.
