This is the final painting in a series depicting Italy during the pandemic.
I was looking at pictures of Italy and wondering how empty the cities were. I thought, what if cities need to be free of people sometimes, to breathe peacefully, to be blown away by the wind, and to wash away the remains of car exhaust fumes with water? Suddenly, this period of quarantine seemed to hint to people that sometimes it was worth it to sit alone with themselves or their families, and that cities, too, needed to be given a break from time to time.
