In the foreground of the picture is the young Lautaro, the leader of the Mapuche (Araucan) tribe. His path as a warrior was the path of great battles and victories: his courage and intelligence allowed the Araucanians to maintain their freedom and remain the only people in South America that was not conquered by the Spanish conquistadors.
However, before us is not a jubilant winner, but a drooping young man. In the end, only he knows the price of victory. How many great warriors fell in battle... Laucanu turns to the spirits of the ancestors who live beyond the Andes, to the Milky Way, where the souls of great warriors found peace, with a prayer that the falling stars will return the souls of heroes to earth. He is not alone.
The eagle, located behind the warrior figure, is not only an observer, but also a symbol of protective power. It merges with the mountain peaks and protects the drooping warrior with its wings.
