Large flamingos of unusual color are a kind of attraction in Cyprus. Indeed, watching flamingos is fascinating, because they are amazing birds… They sleep on one leg, manage to make long-distance flights and at the same time retain grace and beauty.
Why do flamingos fly to Cyprus?
Pink flamingos are the only species of flamingos that fly for the sake of wintering. The remaining species lead a sedentary lifestyle. Flamingos fly to Cyprus for moderate humidity and food, which is abundant here in the cool season.
Mostly these birds come to the island from Italy, France, and even Kazakhstan. On the island, they are quite warm and at the same time humid, although flamingos do not like tropical rains. It is easier for them to survive the rare Cypriot frosts than the humid heat. Sometimes flamingos from Africa visit Cyprus – they fly away from excessive heat and drought.
