The painting depicts the moment of the return of the lightship AMRUMBANK to EMDEN RATSDELFT, accompanied by two tugboats, after the ship left its berth at the end of August 2019 and over the next 16 months underwent a large-scale reconstruction at one of the Emden shipyards.
In the picture, I wanted to convey the state of the awakening city: the first industrial sounds, dissolving in the morning haze of shipyards, the creak of crane beams, the rustling of transport on the pier ... And the main thing, I think, is the contrast of cold night tones, giving way to the warm morning colors of a new day and the dominant red the color of the freshly painted hull of the Amrumbank lighthouse. An imposing procession to the place of its parking in the city center, the expectations of the townspeople and the pride of everyone who participates in the active life of the legendary ship - these are emotions that are not forgotten.
The Amrumbank lighthouse was built in 1915 at the Jos.L.Meyer shipyard in Papenburg and since 1917 has been used as a lightship at several positions in the North Sea. After decommissioning on 19 October 1983, it was purchased, renovated and partly rebuilt by the "Working Group Museums-Feuerschiff e.V., Emden". Since August 2, 1984, Amrumbank has been located in Emden's Ratsdelft - in the city center - and anyone can visit it.
