Is it possible to imagine the boundless expanse of the sea without a harbor and lighthouses? Is it possible to be a marine painter and not pay attention to these majestic structures? My new series for the study of the unity of people, the elements, the saving light of beacons. Lighthouses have become symbols of salvation and love. They are sea temples to whose light sailors pray.
The Pierres Noires lighthouse (English: Black Rocks Lighthouse) is a maritime lighthouse of Finistère built from 1867 to 1871 and inaugurated on May 1st 1872. Located off the Saint-Mathieu point, it allows ships entering the Four channel to avoid at night and in foggy weather the reefs of the Pierres Noires road. It is attached to the commune of Le Conquet and belongs to the French State.
It was listed as a historical monument by order of December 31, 2015. On the proposal of the National Commission of Historic Monuments, the Minister of Culture and Communication has, on April 20, 2017, classified the lighthouse of Pierres Noires as a historic monument.
