Concept
The poem "One Human Being" by Saneatsu Mushanokoji, which I read as a child, is my starting point and the theme of my work. Every artist develops his or her own philosophy, and this piece of modern poetry is the cornerstone of my philosophy. Many of my works are titled after this verse, "Isn't it enough to be a human being? The shapes, colors, and matiere that appear in various ways are the shapes of my own mind and yours. I would be happy if you could touch many hearts through my works, sympathizing and repelling each other. And I believe that the form of these hearts is an expression unique to me, whose original landscape is in Asuka Village, Nara Prefecture. Asuka Village is home to various excavated artifacts ranging from megaliths to pottery shards, as well as many temples, shrines, and ruins. Even as a child, I felt the unique atmosphere of old times and a mysterious energy that was both interesting and frightening. I think Asuka Village gave me something important. I would like to continue to draw from my deepest spring, the freshest fountain of life, the shape of my heart. I want to be an individual person, not to be used by anyone, not to bow down to anyone, not to take advantage of others, not to snub others, and in return, not to be snubbed myself.
