The painting is a part of the “Square at the Golden Gate” work series, which is aimed to preserve old Kyiv in images. It is a representation of the first period of the chestnut blooming, which are the constant symbol of Kyiv. I was impressed by the powerful tree crowns, white candles of bloom and the borderless light, which penetrated from the very tops of the trees to the bottom. The light dominates in my works, it moves on the canvass, reveals the objects, it is the integral part of the space and the main character. I am attracted to the interaction of the light and shadow, their play, bizarre forms of the sunspots. It is not the object but its metamorphosis that matter, when it is fully absorbed by the sun. The sunspots play a special role here, they shine with orange spots on the tent, with bright green colour in the tree crowns, tickle a face, bring warmth. Thanks to this we are completely absorbed by the environment of the painting and feel as we are in it.
The painting took part in the “Vesnianyi Kyiv” exhibition. Chocolate House, National museum “Kyiv Picture Gallery”. Kyiv, 2019
