Blue, deep blue, ultramarine, purple, indigo colour – have deepness and some mystic power. This is probably why twilight, night time, moonlight are so attractive. I like such a mysterious cold light, such subtle balance. Lilac embodies the whole spectrum of colours, this is why for me they are night flowers, and even more because its scent is more noticeable after sunset, when the daily heat cools down and the blooming smell circulates in the air. The first spring flowers, which inevitably appear in my vases are lilacs. There were no alternative, the image was formed instantaneously: blue on blue, night flowers in the night window, the smell of the lilac and the wind at night, cold light of the moon and shimmers of water on the glass. This painting is about freshness, spring and night.
