I have always liked this music. Even in youth, studying in the class of classical guitar, wrote out the notes of the Sonata in a musical notebook. But learned only the beginning of it. By the way, the notebook with notes has survived to this day.
And so many years have passed and I returned to this melody. I nurtured the idea of creating this painting for a long time, but life made its own adjustments. I needed to somehow express my sadness and personal experiences... So I began to paint the picture.
Moonlight Sonata is a rather sad and even dramatic work.
It was dedicated to a young seventeen years old girl named Giulietta Guicciardi. She was a noble aristocrat who took piano lessons from Beethoven. The thirty years old composer fell in love with a capable, intelligent and beautiful countess. Juliet was at first supportive of him and responded with mutual feelings. Beethoven was overwhelmed with emotions and made happy plans for a joint future.
But all his dreams were shattered. Juliet was carried away by Count Wenzel Gallenberg, some of mediocre composer. Despite the title and noble origin, the girl's family was not rich. When it came to marriage, preference was given to Count Gallenberg, whom Juliet Guicciardi married.
Piano Sonata No. 14 was written in 1801 and dedicated to Guicciardi in memory of the happy time spent together. And although Sonata No. 14 was published with a dedication on the title page, Beethoven never forgave Juliet for betrayal.
It is noteworthy that the name "MOONLIGHT" appeared only after the death of Beethoven in 1832. It was given by a German music critic who knew the composer during his lifetime.
This is how centuries, life stories, music and art intertwined.
