This oil on canvas depicts a scene in the Fna Gema Square with a snake charmer in the foreground and the Kutubiyya Mosque in the background. There are many people in groups, women seated and a man with a bicycle which is very typical in Morocco.
I fell in love with Morocco. I found the country, the people, the cities, the smells , the Zocos, all fascinating. The subject matter of my work is inspired by my passion for beauty, and shaped by my imagination and personal experiences. This can be seen in the series of Marrakesh where the luminosity and atmosphere are more important than the figures, which are more essence than substance and where the atmosphere of jostling and haggling demand that the viewer pause and observe.
I consider this painting to be expressionist, modern and figurative. It is very colourful, with movement and atmosphere.
Both on and off the canvas, my work is all about movement, the moment and zest for life. Full of bold, Mediterranean colours, my expressionist works convey the vibrancy of an instant reaching out to be shared by the viewer. They are accessible yet not facile, arresting yet pleasing.
Dynamic expression through the use of color. Very vivid colors that give light, atmosphere and contrasts by being complementary not by chiaroscuro and spontaneity in the stroke of those loose brushstrokes and lines. Intuition and technical knowledge combined in the production of images that capture moments of life.
