This artwork is painted in oil and pastel on unstretched canvas, which gives it a very raw and kind of "hard" appearance which Is exactly what I wanted to convey. For mounting, there are 4 holes in the canvas, near the corners so one could secure it with nails, witch was also the way of hanging during the time it was exhibited. The mix of pastel and oil paint I used, was because I wanted to mention a "painterly" feeling while also having a linear element.
As for the overall look of the painting I chose colors which create a very dark and somewhat uncomfortable feeling, inspired by a dystopian vision of the future as it was painted during the time the new gene-modifying technology CRISPR/ Cas9 was in everybody's mouth.
