    Description

This artwork is a painting of an island close to North Cape up north in Norway where the Sea Sami lives. It is an arctic island with no trees, but beautyful mountains and lakes full of fish. The ocean on the north side of the island is the Barents Sea.
It used to live about 700 persons on the island in foreign years, to day there is only about 40 persons. The main living is fish industry. Today the island is a popular tourist destination from Europe countries, mainly for the fishing opportunities.

I allways use oilpainting on canvas when I paint my artworks.

  • About this artist

    Concept

Tom Paulsen was born in an artic island in northern Norway into a Sea Sami family who made their living from doing farming and fishing. The carastheristic of this island is the midnightsun during the summer, and the northern light during the winter.
The scenery of this island has allways fascinated him, and inspired him to paint the beautiful light through the seasons of the year.
The winter is dark because the sun disappears in nowember and returns in february. The light that is left is a shade of blue in the white snow. The inhabitants calls the dark season for the colortime. When the northern light dances in the sky, what else could be more beautiful than this view!
The midnightsun in summertime shades the island in a very special light, not exactly daylight, but a warm shade from the sun.
Tom Paulsen uses oilcolors to get the perfect impression on his canvas. Because the oilpainting needs hours to dry, he often has several canvases in production with impressions from his beautiful arctic island.
