Oil and mixed media on canvas, 53x45cm, 2021.

This painting was inspired by my experience of having my artwork rejected from all the art competitions I applied to for a few years. Feeling disheartened, I wanted to paint something to express my frustration, but in a subtle way. I glued some of the rejection letters that I'd received to the canvas, as well as other papers like postcards and stickers, and painted on top of them. Though the girl's face is neutral, I tried to show the intense feelings of disappointment, sadness or even anger through the explosive nebula overlaid on her head, and also because I enjoy painting space phenomena.

Nadine Franklin is an artist from the US who is living and studying in Tokyo. She mainly works in oil painting, gouache, and watercolors. Nadine's work combines images inspired by her daily life in collage-like compositions. If you want to hang a canvas with a hook, a hook type with a long hooking surface, such as a V-shaped type is recommended.

If there is a string on the back of the canvas or the back of the frame, you can hang it with a pin type that has a short hooking surface.
