As with many things in 21 century, coral reefs are at the edge of extinction and could disappear before the end of this century. Coral beauty, hidden secrets and complex geometrical form attracted the artists attention, but the fact that we may lose them pushed her to give them more space in her art and open the conversation about the importance of coral reefs.
Coral reefs are one of the most diverse and valuable ecosystems on Earth. They hold more species per unit than any other marine environment and there may be millions of organisms that we didn’t yet discover. This diversity is important for the whole food chain. In the ecological crisis that we are in, food is going to become one of our biggest problems, we cannot afford to lose coral reefs.
Beside food, coral reefs protect our shores and their biodiversity is considered the key to finding new medicines for the 21st century, like a medicine for cancer. There is many ways all of us can protect coral reefs, take an action!
