    Description

Desi is my first work from the "Surreal Horse Series". It was inspired due to my sheer fascination for horses. I started with making a sculpture of a horse the way I would like to see it. Then I took photos of that sculpture from different angles and then painted it over a stretched canvas. The colour theme selection was impulsive though motivated from my subcontinental background. The word Desi means local, it is used to describe the people, cultures, and products of the Indian subcontinent and their diaspora, derived from Sanskrit, meaning "land, country". Desi traces its origin specifically to the people of the countries India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh where they wear bright and vibrant colours. I have used oil and acrylic colours with gel. Mix of green, black and white background was premeditated choice.

    Concept

I have had the good fortune of living in three countries India, UAE, and Canada for several years and travel to more than 25 countries. Observing vivid landscapes, people and their culture, the artifacts and architecture were immensely captivating. I believe my work is inspired by such amazing things that gets accumulating in my memory and comes out impulsively while I paint.
As an artist, I challenge myself to develop paintings that speak both to me and to others about the beauty that exists all around us. Part of my process before I begin painting is to observe the intricacies of what I would paint and imagine it in diverse colours that I am about to recreate on canvas. I do not merely want to capture the image with my brushes; rather, with careful, colorful strokes, I want to give life new meaning.
