Sacred and Profane Love is the title of one of the best-known works by Tiziano, an Italian painter of the 1500s.
Citing a title of great renown, the painter calls our attention to always remember our roots, and if on one hand we are the result of our past, on the other hand the universal themes that move our soul remain always the same.
The two main characters are clearly the white and the black angel, together they create sound, voice, the verb that gives color to the whole sky, which activates creation.
The Sacred love can be recognized through representation of angels, a symbol of connection between the earthly and heavenly, whereas the Profane can be identified in the position of the angelic bodies, where the light angel tries to fly and the dark is kneeling, manifesting his service.
Movement can be seen in the water descending from the top of the mountain towards the angel’s feet, recalling the feet lavatory, as a message that light and darkness work together for the creation
