I have the strong belief that in this time of chaos and uncertainty, beauty and balance can save our spirits. My series "Mandala" is originated in that deep need I've felt inside and I've read in people's eyes, that need of safety, harmony, protection and finding one's way home.
Lately, I've felt inspired to approach spiritual and metaphysical art, which has deep significance for many people and can be a powerful meditative and ritual tool. I've felt like using mandalas in my artworks to create what Jung believed was a "safe refuge of inner reconciliation and wholeness".
By using colorful circular geometric patterns in my artworks, I create mandalas (in Sanskrit "magic circle" and symbol of the universe) to provide a sacred space into which the person who is contemplating them can invite the Self and experience integration and wholeness. Just like the women in the portraits, who are surrounded by this colorful geometric focused outer universe that is perfectly balanced with the inner universe.
