Berkea purpurea

This Berkea purpurea has a distinctive appearance with cactus-like thorns on its leaves. Native to South Africa, it blooms at high altitudes and is the only Berkea species with purple flowers. The petals are pale purple with a blackish-brown center, and from behind, the gunk is dark purple, contrasting beautifully with the petals. It is now listed as an endangered species. When I photographed this at the botanical garden, the gauss (small white flower) was in the picture with me and showed me a very pretty place, so I decided to paint it together. When I painted this picture, I wanted to make it a picture that would be enjoyable. I wanted to fill the picture with the main subject, the flowers, and give each flower a free will and a sense of fun. The background is not single, but brightened from the top to the bottom. I also made each flower face outward so that the viewer would be aware of the space outside the picture.
