Concept

"I mostly paint landscapes. I am not talking about new or current. I just remind you that beauty can be in the moment. It's simple, this moment is like a snap of your fingers. Something attracts attention, a click, and you look, and you can't tear yourself away. It could be the light of the setting sun on a tree trunk, an outlandish shadow, or the fierce colors of the sky in a slushy gray city.
I paint in oils using soft, raw ""watercolor"" underpainting and rough, opaque strokes with a palette knife. This allows you to create light transparent shadows and dense, textured light, connecting bright spots and some understatement, which I associate with peripheral peripheral vision. It is to them that we catch these sensations first. And the desire to push the viewer to the emotions experienced at this moment is my goal."
